Recently I started reading this book called Speak by Lauri Halse Anderson published in 1999.  It is a very interesting book, as it tells us the story of a girl named Melinda Sordino, the main character, who gets raped at a party. Her life is over. After she gets rapped, she called the cops and cannot speak on the phone.  She wants to say something but the words cannot get out of her throat. So the cops come and shut down the party. Eventually, when everyone finds out that she was the one who called the police, they start hating on her.  She then becomes everyone's enemy. No one knows why she called the cops since she has this fear inside of her that cannot let her speak.  Throughout the whole book, she has this fear against herself and the people around her. She stays by herself everyday throughout the whole day since no one wants to be her friend. At the end of the book, she finally finds the courage and strength to finally speak. Everyone found out what had happened at the party and Andy Evans, the rapist, became the person that everyone started to hate. Everyone forgave Melinda for what they did to her and started to give her comfort. She finally felt better since she spoke and did not let the anger stay inside of her.

I started reading this book because my sister recommended it to me. She was talking about this book all day and night. Therefore, I thought it would not kill me to try reading it. This book is the best so far. It has a lot of wonderful morals that can help people in life. Staying silent should never be an option because the anger stays inside of you and builds up. At last, I truly recommend everyone to read this book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.

  1. Exceptional blogging, Gaetan. This book possibly could tell us about many teenagers in this era today. After a sexual assault has been inflicted upon a girl, most are reluctant to liberate their chagrin as result of feeling ashamed and taking the blame for not stopping the assault. From what I have picked up, keeping silent is the absolute worst possible way to fix a problem. It actually runs away from the problem rather than attempting to fix it at all. Teenagers today are encouraged to alleviate their problems by actually seeking out social attention from someone that is close to them. It is detrimental to keep a problem within yourself. As Gaetan stated that "staying silent should never be an option because the anger stays inside of you and builds up." Once the anger and shame builds up, one can only imagine the amount of damage it can potentially release around them.

  2. This book looks like an amazing book because it reflects on some teenagers in our society now. By reading your small description on the book I can assume that not facing your problems and not speaking up for your problems is a big problem because the people around you will not understand what is going on and that will hurt you. The character in this book looks like she had past a miserable life after the tragic event that happened to her and she could not speak up so that caused the people around her to not like her anymore. This is happening with a lot of teenagers in this world because they are keeping all there problems that are affecting them inside of them, and this results to many tragic events. This book looks like a very interesting book which will make its readers learn many things while reading it.

  3. This novel sounds like a good book. It seems like a book that teaches you a less. The lesson is that you should have the courage to say what you need to say, you shouldn't be afraid in life. I feel that when you have the courage it makes you be a better person in life. You should never run away from your problems in life, should just have the courage to fix it. By fixing your problems you would have a better life to live. This book seems to be amazing.
